Terminating 2011 Candidacy for Mayor of the City of Flint:
*Original Announcement Made on Saturday April 23rd 2011*

Dear supporters,
This morning, I spoke in front of a group of mayoral candidates, supporters, and other figures to announce that I will no longer be running for Mayor of the City of Flint in 2011. This decision was by no means an easy decision. The foundation of my campaign was based upon Flint Pride, community involvement, and a dedicated and unified effort to bring about positive change here in Flint.

Today I also announced that I will be supporting Mr. Scott Smith for Mayor of Flint. Both Scott and I share the same views, have the same level of passion and dedication to the community, and wish to see resolute change come to the city of Flint. Both Scott and I have vested much time and energy into seeing to it that such change comes to this city. I have been 'preaching' from the start of my campaign that we must all work together to achieve the common goal of a better Flint, a safer Flint, a more prosporus Flint, and I feel that if I were to continue running, my candidacy would only cause a divide and would be counter-productive to the vision that both myself and Scott have for this city, therefore, I ask all of my supporters to support Scott Smith in the 2011 Mayoral elections.

It is my full intention to continue to be a visible activist within the community to the best of my ability, to support the Scott Smith campaign to the best of my ability, and to push the youth agenda to the best of my ability. I do thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support, words of encouragement, and friendship and I ask that you show Scott Smith, Flints next Mayor, the same support, encouragement, and friendship that you have all shown me.

Thank you, God bless, and God bless Flint, Michigan!

Sincerely,
Kayamone A. Sutton, Sr.

Reaction to 2011 Flint State of the City Address:
2011 Flint Mayoral Candidate Kayamone Sutton, acknowledges Mayor Dayne Wallings State of the City address.

"I believe that Mayor Walling has done a good job in helping stimulate Flints economy and bringing jobs here to Flint, however, most of the development that he talks about focuses on the downtown areas of Flint, and not the city as a whole. While development of the downtown area is a critical step in growth within the city, his efforts have been shortsighted and the people of Flint are looking to him to expand his reach beyond that of the downtown area. Housing development, job creation, and programs to help the youth ARE needed, but those programs are not being extended into the true heart of Flint, which is by no means downtown. If we are to focus on the people, we must invest in our neighborhoods. Encourage new businesses within the more heavily populated areas of the city especially that of the north side, and to offer programs for our youth, not just in one location, but all over the city, utilizing our community centers like Flint once did prior to 2000. Once progress in those areas are made, then and only then can we truly celebrate a positive upswing in our citys state."

Kayamone A. Sutton sees the public safety and the economy as important issues to the people of Flint. According to Kayamone, "Without a one hundred percent effort to support our public safety officials and assisting entrepreneurs of all ages to open businesses all over the city, Flint will never be on the right path to overcoming our problems and reviving the city from the economic downfall we have found ourselves in."

Mayor Dayne Walling has consistently shown his disinterest in the people of Flint by making controversial decisions that counteract the progress that he proclaimed in his State of the City address. His actions since taking action show that he does not have the best interest of the people of the City of Flint at heart.

Campaign Spring Bottle Drive Fundraiser Deemed Successful:
The first fundraiser for The Sutton for Mayor 11 was held today, June 1st, on the east side of Flint. Kayamone along with staff members and volunteers went door to door to collect cans and bottles to raise money for the campaign. During the fundraiser, many citizens voiced their opinions regarding the current crime rate and economic crisis that Flint has been faced with. Kayamones thoughts and opinions regarding these issues fell upon receptive ears.

The fundraiser also marks the start of an aggressive grassroots campaign to promote the candidate and take notice of the concerns of the community. Further fundraising efforts are currently in motion as well as other efforts to reach out to the community to promote youth community activism, youth voter awareness, and address solutions to the issues affecting our city.

Todays fundraiser was deemed a great success. Campaign staff members are optimistic with the progress to be made in coming months.
