Sutton 2011 Campaign Officially Kicks Off

November 2011. That date marks an important date in Flint’s history. A new mayor will be elected to take over and help turn Flint around for the better. Election 2011 gives Flint residents the power to speak out and take charge of the city’s future by casting our votes to chose who we feel will lead this city with honor, courage, and commitment. In the past five years, Flint has seen quite a few changes and has had more than enough Mayors. In this timeframe, all previous Mayors have stepped up to the plate, have made empty promises, and have blatantly lied to the public. These failed Mayors have neglected to set themselves apart from past Mayors and city officials.

Flint needs a Mayor who will step up to the plate, who will do exactly as they say, who will put an end to crooked government policies, who will develop a new way to lead the city efficiently, effectively, and have pride all the while. Flint needs a public servant who will step up and redefine the Office of the Mayor of Flint and who will restore credibility in city government. The task at hand is one of momentous proportion. There is nothing easy about reviving a struggling city in the midst of a national economic crisis. At a time like this, Flint needs a strong public servant who will do what he or she says, and who has the pulse of the citizens.

Today, I formally announce my intention to enter the 2011 elections for Flint Mayor. As a Flint citizen, born and raised, I have seen Flint come a long way as it battled through as the auto industry continued to abandon the city leaving thousands jobless, and putting the local economy under enormous strain and pressure. I have felt what every Flint citizen has felt, worry and disappointment in city government to handle our economic crisis responsibly. City government has failed to do all that it could to keep the city and its citizens afloat. As a concerned citizen like everyone else, I want to see a change in the management of this city, and today I announce my intention to make that change a priority. Vote for me and you vote for credible government. Vote for me you vote for change in government policy and tactics, for crime-free streets, better education, more jobs, and a beautified city overall. Remember: “It’s About Change, It’s about Community, It’s About Us!”.

I am Kayamone Sutton, and I am running for Mayor of the City of Flint, Michigan.
